This is just a fun photo from our recent installation in the Congo. The kids across the road used the cardboard tubes that our curtain rods were shipped in as goal posts for their soccer field! I loved the ‘reused’ factor!
Kim & Bruce got married this weekend in Hogsback. The ceremony was on the side of a mountain and the reception was in a 100 year old barn that had no power! The setting (and the bride) were beautiful and Kim did such an amazing job of the barn where the reception was held, I loved the paraffin lanterns and the bunting.
Having just returned from Paris last weekend, I thought I would share my trip with you. I went to attend Maison & Objet to source new homeware for the store but spent 8 days in Paris being inspired by all the stunning stores, scenery and people! Special thanks to my photographer Marcus.
We visited countless stores but these are the four that stood out. Astier de Villate had beautiful crockery and cutlery displayed in almost ‘dungeon like’ spaces in an old building.
Merci was wonderful from the food in the bookshop cafe to the well edited stock in the store, this is a must for anyone visting Paris. I also love the fact that all profit from their sales goes to charity.
Aesop stores are an Australian brand of beauty products, each store is designed by a different architect.
The Dries Van Noten store was beautiful - the colours, shopfitting and the clothes….Watch the slideshow.
As Paris has no free space for gardens, they have got very creative with their vertical ones.

By day two Marcus had us on the Velib bikes. It is such a clever system and was a great way to explore the city. What I loved was the big basket in the front to put all your shopping!
Everywhere you go in Paris you can find something of beauty. I’m not a fan of graffiti but I did love these - I was fascinated by the trucks that were also canvases for the graffiti artists.

Interesting building details:

And lastly the reason why I went. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take photos at the show so I can’t show you any other cool design stuff/trends we saw. This is a tiny taste of whats to come at Mezzanine, I don’t want to spoil the surprise of posting it all.
We expanded our showroom last year to accommodate more exciting stock. There is an outside courtyard under a big avo tree where we plan to launch new outdoor furniture for summer. We also have a bigger sample book section so we can over our clients a bigger selection of fabrics.
In February 2009 Mezzanine celebrated its 10th birthday!
